“Australia’s environmental protection laws are broken. We have turned nature against us.”

In a speech to the National Press Club, Chair of the Australian Climate and Biodiversity Foundation, former Secretary to the Treasury and Chair of Wildlife Recovery Australia Dr Ken Henry AC makes a compelling case that our laws do not protect the environment and do not conserve biodiversity.

Speaking about the inefficacy of the 1999 Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act, Henry said “We have turned nature against us. Our destruction of the natural environment now poses an existential threat to everything we value.”
