National Tour Arrives in Sydney

This week, our National Tour arrived in Sydney, with Wildlife Recovery Australia Hospital, Matilda, Australia’s first fully equipped mobile wildlife hospital, stationed at Henson Park Stadium in Marrickville.

Across Wednesday and Thursday, our veterinary team has been treating wildlife patients onsite while also welcoming supporters, carers and members of the community to tour the hospital and learn more about the growing need for accessible wildlife veterinary care across Australia.

Earlier in the week, on Tuesday afternoon, we also spent time on the rooftop garden of Parliament House meeting with policymakers and decision makers to advocate for stronger support for wildlife care nationwide.

Throughout the afternoon, we had the opportunity to meet with Members of Parliament and the Legislative Assembly to discuss the urgent need for a stronger, more coordinated approach to wildlife care across New South Wales and Australia.

We were incredibly grateful for the support shown by representatives from across the political spectrum, including leaders, ministers and environmental advocates who took time out of their day to hear firsthand about the challenges facing wildlife carers, hospitals and rehabilitation networks.

Special thanks to The Hon Paul Toole MP, Member for Bathurst, for generously arranging access for us to host the event at Parliament House.

A special thank you also to Ben Dessen and the beautiful wildlife ambassadors from Hills Wildlife Sanctuary for helping us advocate for Australia’s precious wildlife, alongside Trevor Evans representing Secret Creek Wildlife Sanctuary and the newly established Wollemi Wildlife Hospital.

These conversations are an important step toward building stronger support systems for wildlife hospitals, carers and conservation organisations nationwide.
